Bacopa Monnieri
Steroidal saponins called bacosides (primarily bacoside A and B) modulate serotonergic, dopaminergic, and cholinergic neurotransmission simultaneously. Upregulates tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH2) and serotonin transporter (SERT) expression. Enhances dendrite branching and synaptic plasticity via kinase-dependent signaling cascades. Potent antioxidant activity in hippocampal tissue specifically, reducing lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation.

Bacopa is the compound with the most robust human RCT data in the entire nootropic category. Multiple meta-analyses. Consistent effect sizes for memory acquisition and retention. The catch is time. Bacopa takes 8-12 weeks to reach full effect. The Ayurvedic tradition knew this. Modern consumers want results in 48 hours and write it off as placebo. The thyroid suppression concern at chronic high doses is legitimate and underreported. Monitor TSH if you are running this long-term. Take with fat. Standardize to bacosides, not whole herb weight.
